Praying When it Hurts
In 2019, the CDC put together a National Health Interview Survey, and they found that over 20% of adults suffered from chronic pain. If you look at just the women, it was almost 22%. That means one out of every five people have experienced chronic pain.
But chronic pain isn’t the only kind of pain. Whether you have had a headache, back pain, sunburn, toothache, or kidney stones you know how distracting pain can be. All pain hurts, not just chronic pain.
Chronic Pain & Faith
When you’re in pain, it’s hard to focus. Reading, praying, thinking; anything that requires brainpower is difficult to say the least. And the longer the pain lasts, the more our faith to suffer. If reading is hard, that means reading our Bibles becomes a challenge. Sitting down to pray can feel hopeless when pain consumes our thoughts. And that’s what pain does. It consumes us. Or it can feel that way.
Clinging to Jesus When You’re in Pain
I know this firsthand. In 2017, I came down with the worst migraine you can imagine, and it never went away. In the past three and a half years, I have only had one pain-free day. In my newly released book, Clinging to Jesus, I share ten ways to pray and meditate on God’s Word when you’re in pain.
One early reviewer said, “As someone who deals with memory and cognitive issues, I felt [Clinging to Jesus] was very easy to read. But even more so, I was grateful for the grace and peace it gave me about my inability to remember Scriptures and their references, or even my own prayers. I’ve felt like such a failure in my own head but Clinging to Jesus helped me see that Jesus loves me for who I am, and there is no condemnation for what I’m not.”
I will be speaking about my experience and how it can help you at the first ever online prayer conference hosted by Praying Christian Women. My session is titled: Praying When it Hurts,” and I’ll be sharing how to cling to Jesus when you’re in pain. Other speakers include Alana Terry, LaToya Edwards, Arabah Joy, and Brittany Ann.
I hope to see you there.
Everyone who attends the conference will get a free PDF copy of my new book, Clinging to Jesus. However, the Kindle and paperback editions are available on Amazon here.
